A Peek inside my Picnic Basket

The Fourth of July is all about food and I love it. This weekend I decided that the absolutely beautiful weather meant it was time to pull out the picnic blanket and basket. I put together what I thought was a very quaint, French inspired picnic spread.  So today I have some tips for you on creating not only a delicious, but also aesthetically pleasing outdoor afternoon.

The Spread

Appetizer

Rosemary Herb Crackers, Summer Sausage & Brie Cheese paired with a Chardonnay

Entrée

Radish Arugula Baguette Sandwiches

What you need: A fresh baguette, three thinly chopped radishes, three cups of arugula, a handful of chopped chives (or herb of your choice), olive oil, butter, and garlic salt.

Divide the baguette into as many sandwiches as you would like, cutting them all in half width wise. Spread as much butter on to each one as you would like onto each of the pieces of baguette. Breaking the stems off a few pieces of arugula, cover each one of the sandwich bottom pieces. Spread a few of the radish slices on top of the arugula and top off with a drizzle of olive oil. Sprinkle some finely chopped chives and garlic powder to taste.

Dessert

Grapes, grapes, and more grapes !

The Presentation

For a fabulous picnic presentation that will catch the eye of every passerby, begin by gathering the necessities, a basket and blanket. A light color blanket with a simple design will do best, I went with lacey white. Flowers are always a beautiful touch when planning a sit-down lunch. I prefer hydrangeas, tulips, or of course the very rarely in season peonies. As for the food presentation, I went with a rustic looking cheese board and contrasting bold colored bowl for the grapes.
